When I started at the gym I used to get on the treadmill and walk for 30 minutes.  I would talk to a friend or watch TV.  I lost weight and it seemed so easy.

But……as I got stronger I started noticing my knee would ache.  It would come and go.

A visit to the doctor provide more information saying something about low impact is better.  I said like the elliptical machine and she said “No!”  Like the bike or rowing machine.

I started riding the upright bike for 30 minutes per visit.  I set my seat on the setting that allows my leg to almost straighten out with a slight bend.

Sometimes I ride longer like up to an hour.  If I am super busy I make sure I get 30 minutes in.

I select Fat Burn, I enter my age /weight and accept the heart rate it comes up with.  Then I get my RPM up to 100.  Now riding a bike in the gym can be boring.  I started bringing my Kindle/iPad and set it up to cover up all the readouts except the RPM.  I love  reading books while I work out.  The time FLYS by.  I feel great and ready to start the day.

I leave my cell phone in the locker.  This is the time that I totally unplug and decompress.
