I love Facebook, I have grown my business using Facebook, and even won a fancy award for my expertise. Recently I was writing a business blog about Facebook Etiquette I realized there are a few things that would be great to share with everyone! You don’t know what you don’t know, right?

I have learned from my own mistakes. I also did a lot of interviewing with others to learn what they think should be included in my blog!! Let’s help each other!!

SELFIES- this is one area that the kids have down pat, that adults have ALL WRONG! Just because you figured out how to flip the camera around and press that button doesn’t mean you should! Take your arm and hold the camera high, then tilt it down to get the perfect angle. In fact grab a teen and have them show you how it’s done. Trust me they have practiced. If you continue without a lesson, we will see your chin rolls, wrinkles, dark circles, you will look 10-20 years OLDER than you really are! STOP THE MADNESS!

EDIT –

Did you know you can EDIT your posts? It’s been around for years but still not everyone uses it! Posting has been MUCH easier after this feature was added, if you don’t know about it, find it: it’s life changing!!

LIKES and Comments

It takes one second to click LIKE and another minute to enter a nice comment. If you are my friend, are active on Facebook, comment on other people’s stuff, you really should comment on mine too. It’s just rude, maybe that is your intention, fine, if it is not, just click LIKE!!

PHOTOS

Are you in most of the photos you post? This is normal for teens but not adults!

The only time it is enjoyable to see many photos of the same subject matter are of BABIES and puppies! They change by the hour and it’s fun to watch them grow on Facebook. When adults do this it seems like a midlife crisis.

PHOTO ALBUMS

Find your top photos of your vacation and as you post them, tell a story. It more enjoyable this way. In contrast, dropping 350 unedited photos would take forever to go through and most likely you will never look at them again. Also cool tip: you can find companies that will print your Facebook photos/ postings into a nice keepsake.  I like to use https://www.mysocialbook.com.

AVOID POLITICS and RELIGION

You aren’t going to change someone’s mind about religion and politics on Facebook. I seriously avoid it because I am ok with being friends with people from all walks of life. Can’t we all get along?

BE NICE

When you post, and comment keep it friendly and upbeat. Be careful how you word things as the written word can be tricky. Avoid posting anything that begin with “RANT”, it just stirs up negative responses and everyone feels bad when it’s all over. If you are in a bad mood, stay off facebook.

INVITATIONS

Don’t use Facebook to flaunt that you are “in the cool crowd”, and have lots of BFFs. In contrast, don’t read these postings to prove to yourself that you have been excluded. WE ARE NOT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL ANYMORE! Looking for something to do this weekend? Be proactive: Create a plan and invite some friends out. It’s that simple!

LEGIT POST

Guess what? That email chain stuff that we used to get in our email is now resurfacing in Facebook. Don’t fall for it. You are not being charged for the internet and that person may not still be missing. Stop sharing old stuff!

POSTING TOO MUCH

Ok you found a bunch of cute Memes, every time you post one, I get a notification. Can you please give me a minute to see it, laugh, make a comment before posting another? Thank you!!

SAME TOPIC DIFFERENT DAY

You can be real on facebook with happy news and sad news. Your Facebook friends are will provide you wonderful feedback and support. BUT wait, try not to repeat the same topic if you can, their responses will start to dwindle.  This is where real life friends are better, go out and connect in person!

These are just a few quick tips and tricks to improve your presence on Facebook. Stay positive. It’s ok to brag and be sad occasionally. However if you are in a bad mood, just stay off of Facebook.
